The theme of National French Week 2008, the 400th Anniversary of Samuel de Champlain in the New World,
will be the theme of the French immersion day which be held on Saturday, November 1 at West Leyden High
School, 1000 North Wolf Road in Northlake. The title is « Fêtons les 400 ans de la présence française en
Amérique ».
The format of the day is designed for intermediate high school students who are in levels, or years, 2 through 5,
and who are motivated to try to stay in French during the entire day. The aim is to give students the maximum
opportunity to use the skills they have been acquiring to communicate during an extended period. At the same time
they will meet other students of French from the Chicago area and have a lot of fun learning and playing with the
language. They will have the opportunity to win small prizes and to purchase French items that will be available to them.
Some of the sessions will be on the following topics:

Games and other recreational activities
Registration will begin at 8:00 am, and the sessions will run from 9:00 to 3:15. Lunch, along with conversation in
French, will be provided.
Classroom teachers are asked to attend the day with their students and to help supervise and guide all the youngsters
to their assigned rooms. If teachers would like to present a session, please submit a lesson plan form, which may be
found in Francofeuilles or on the AATF website.
Teachers are asked to collect the students' registration forms and checks, and forward them to
Pat Olderr, 1165 Wenonah Avenue, Oak Park 60304-1836. The cost of the program for teachers and students will
be $15 ($20 for non-AATF members).
